Global Women in Engineering and IT
Global Women in Engineering and IT (Global WiEIT) is a HTW Berlin project in cooperation with its partner universities (UTS - Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, UTS - Women in Engineering and IT, Swinburne University of Technology) in Australia.
Global WiEIT primarily has the following objectives:
- The combination of internationalisation measures at the HTW Berlin with the promotion of women* in STEM subjects
- Expansion of internationalisation of the HTW in English-speaking countries, with a focus on Australia, through practical and research-oriented teaching in combined courses from presence to distance formats
- Cooperation of the HTW Berlin with University of Technology Sydney and Swinburne University of Technology
- Promoting research collaboration with partner universities in Australia
- The structural anchoring of the new internationalisation measures at the HTW Berlin
The focus is on:
Innovative, practice-oriented teaching: Through the annual cooperative 3-week International Summer School, in which students work together in international and interdisciplinary teams in Berlin and at one of our partner universities in Sydney or Melbourne. The Summer School is accompanied by international workshops on topics from research to practice, with the goal of joint publications and the development of new courses.
Continuation of our joint research: Through a cooperative supervision of academic theses and through cooperative graduation program with a stay of the doctoral candidate and the supervising professors at both universities. Additional trips by professors and scientific staff are planned to intensify cooperation and promote international experience.
Enhancement of joint cooperation: Better personal networking, promotion of intercultural experience and optimisation of exchange processes through mutual guest visits of International Office employees.
Recruitment of women in engineering and IT: By publicising our goals via internal and external media, by building female role models and expanding the personal networks of all those involved.
Structural anchoring of new the internationalisation measures: Global Women in Engineering and IT will strengthen the international cooperation and form new possibilities for cooperation in teaching and research. The focus is on English-speaking countries, particularly Australia.
The advancement of women*: Funding of scholarship programs for all status-groups and a range of innovative international courses with face-to-face and distance formats in Germany and abroad. The women* will gain valuable international experience without necessarily having to spend several months abroad. The cooperation between HTW Berlin, UTS and Swinburne University of Technology will be used and extended for better international exchange, especially in the fields of engineering and computer science along all universities.
